Konecranes Zero4
The future of industrial productivity
The world needs a new source of productivity growth. While industrial companies continue to face pressure to increase efficiency, sustainability, and safety, many of the gains from traditional automation have already been captured. The next opportunity lies beyond individual machines—in the material flows that connect operations.
Material flows are at the heart of every industrial process, yet they account for close to 10% of companies’ turnover, approximately 5.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and up to 40% of manufacturing injuries. We believe improving how materials, products, and equipment move through industrial operations represents one of the greatest opportunities to increase productivity and sustainability simultaneously.
Zero4 is Konecranes' ecosystem program dedicated to transforming material flows. Together with industry, research, and technology partners, we are developing the digital, connected, and human-centric solutions needed to unlock the next era of industrial productivity.
The program is co-funded by Business Finland as part of the Leading company (“Veturi”) initiative.
Unlock industrial productivity by zeroing down four key deficiencies from material flows: information barriers, GHG emissions, wasted energy and safety incidents.

Over the past year, the Zero4 program has expanded both in scope and diversity. Around 120 Konecranes employees are now involved in the program, together with a wide network of partners.
At the halfway point of the program’s five-year journey, the ecosystem has grown to 90 partner organizations and 15 co-funded projects, strengthening cross-industry collaboration. The program is now moving toward real-world applications, with a growing focus on artificial intelligence, digitalized material flows, and energy efficiency.
Are you an innovative start-up, company, research institute or university? Are you up for a challenge?
We are looking for both partners that provide technical solutions to improve material flow productivity and partners that pilot the resulting solutions in their own plants and ports to join the ecosystem.
